About Aurora
Demographics and Facts Once a budding frontier town of farmers and ranchers just east of the state's capital, Aurora today is Colorado's third largest city with more citizens than such cities as Orlando, Fla.; Rochester, N.Y.; Baton Rouge, La.; Little Rock, Ark.; and Salt Lake City.
City Government The Aurora City Council is composed of a mayor and 10 council members. Of those 10 members, six are ward council members, representing one of the six wards that section the city. The remaining four council members are elected at large, like the mayor, to represent the entire city. The 10 members of Aurora's city council are part-time elected officials, meaning they may all have jobs in addition to their responsibilities as council members.
Commerce and Industry As the third largest city in Colorado, Aurora is a business leader in key growth industries including biotechnology, aerospace and high technology. With a vibrant and professional business climate and first-rate educational institutions, development opportunities are abundant.
Aurora's school districts are among the best in the State of Colorado. The Aurora Public School System boasts of Blue Ribbon School Awards, Help for Working Parents, and a School/Business Partnership Program. The Cherry Creek School District is known throughout the country for its quality of education.
Recreational opportunities abound, including seven dynamic golf courses, Aurora Reservoir, award-winning public parks and recreational facilities, and a wide variety of other unique activities for all family members.
